All I need to do is load the kit and route each kit piece to the desired output within the VSTi. THe Sends look after the audio routing in Reaper. I do not know MT Power Drumkit 2, but for drums, I tend to use a single track with the MIDI clips and Drum VSTi on it, with automatically-generated "output" tracks.

I'm sure I could answer some of these questions myself if I was anywhere close to the PC with Reaper and the Drum Kit installed, but sadly they will be 200 miles away from me for the next week. Do I need to open multiple multiple piano roll editors to change my instrument of choice if MTPDK2 is configured to record to 8 Reaper MIDI tracks. Similarly, if I'm composing a drum track from scratch, I can go through a few iterations of deciding whether a particular beat should be a snare, tom, stick, etc. Can that be achieved within a single instance of the piano roll editor, or do I have to constantly switch back and forth while remembering the exact bar/beat count of each strike?Ģ. I then decide that i'd like to replace some of the side-sticks with snares. Let's say the snare goes to track 1 and the side stick to track 2. I use the pre-configured Grooves and Fills - that gets recorded into 8 Reaper tracks. One question though, if I opt to split the Drum Kit plugin into 8 separate tracks, what happens when I come to edit it? Actually that divides into 2 questions.ġ. Plenty for me to think about there from what you and Herskovitz have told me. Depending on the plug-in you will need to route the different drum kit pieces within the plug-in to the various plug-in outputs too. Now, that feature connects the plug-in outputs to different channels on the track and Sends them to additional generated tracks. Or, if you forget, you can also click on in the FX Chain window and select it form that menu.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial/explanation of how to do this. I assume it's got something to do a) with midi channels (I'm familiar with how to edit the track into different channels after recording it, but not how to configure this beforehand) and b) using SEND's on the percussion track to direct the output of each midi channel to various FX.Īssuming I've got this correct so far, I'm lost to know how to actually set things up to achieve the above.

How do I approach sending different components of the drum kit to different FX? For example send the kick through a compresssor, snare through a reverb and one of the toms through an EQ. Within the MTPDK2 VSTi I can pan and compress individual items (kick, snare etc.) and on the Reaper track I can add an FX like reverb to the whole track but these don't give me the control I'm looking for. It sounded OK but when adding other instrumental and vocal tracks the drum kit doesn't stand out. Using MT Power Drumkit 2 I recorded a midi percussion track.
